In the tradition of award winning, offbeat and stylized documentaries such as The Kid Stays in the Picture and Crumb, ClarkWorld is an inside look into the eccentric life of famed film Director, Bob Clark.  When success was met with high-profile box office failures, Clark would effortlessly switch genres, studios and even countries...anything to continue making movies.  But as Clark continued to struggle against a series of flops, he was simultaneously being heralded as an inspiration to a new breed of filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino, John Carpenter and many others, citing their influence from his iconic films such as Porky's, Murder by Decree, Turk 182, Black Christmas, and of course, the legendary film A Christmas Story (on over 100 critics lists of top 50 movies of all time, and the best Christmas movie of all time).  Clark's film Black Christmas was initially blasted by critics when originally released in 1974, but now, three decades later, it is acknowledged a a pure post-modern masterpiece. A filmmaker examines his life and career, along with three Hollywood hopefuls in various stages of their careers: An actress, model and dancer. Her past as a Playboy Playmate and her Latina accent limits her opportunities and is compromising her goals. We also discover a Hollywood tour guide reflecting on her 15-year pursuit of becoming a singer and an actress, though it’s been 6 years since her last performance. And a failed screenwriter leaves Hollywood and faces the bitter shadow of what could have been. The film is also packed with celebrity interviews who give entertaining insight into their journey. But we are reminded that the pursuit of the Hollywood Dream is a battle that few can win. In fact, a thousand people come to Hollywood everyday in pursuit of the Dream… and a thousand people leave Hollywood everyday, usually with their dreams completely shattered. And despite the odds, they continue to come… but sometimes, despite the success they will also leave. Our filmmaker ultimately decides that he is stuck somewhere between success and failure and abandons the dream of Hollywood for one that is much larger.
